For an independent future, free from addiction

If Dodoma, until a few years ago, seemed “exempt” from the phenomenon of the children living and working on the street, with the development of the city and its promotion to capital, it has become a popular destination for many of them.

Contrary to what is often believed, children and young people who live and work on the street are not orphans or at least not of both parents; however, the reasons that lead them to seek a better life on the street and away from home are various, such as poverty, abuses suffered within the home or at school and negligence on the part of their families.

Consequently, with the growth of this problem, we have seen an increase in children and young people who live and work on the street, who sniff glue and drink alcohol to survive and bear the pangs of hunger, thus becoming addicted.

What can we do to contrast this phenomenon?

Over the course of its 25 years of life, KISEDET has helped a large number of young people to detoxify from various substances and reintegrate into society by attending professional schools and learning skills that can guarantee them a decent life away from the temptation to return to the street.

For two years now, KISEDET has been collaborating with the Sober House in Arusha, a rehabilitation center where young people who agree to embark on a journey of recovery from alcohol and substances are welcomed, at a cost of 300,000 TSh (€120) on first month and 250,000 TSh (€100) for the following months. Currently, there are seven children supported by KISEDET who are undertaking a detoxification process at the Sober House, although three more are expected to be admitted soon.

The lack of free rehabilitation facilities for minors and the high maintenance cost per person prompted us to create this fundraiser, whose primary objective is to combat the phenomenon of drug addiction among young people by offering them effective help, facilitating their recovery and reintegration into work. Every donation, small or large, will be of enormous help to the continuation of this project and will guarantee a future for these kids.

Donate to ensure them an independent future, free from addiction.
