The Multifunctional House in Chigongwe!

On Saturday 15th April, in Rivolta d’Adda, TUPO PAMOJA 2 was held, an event in memory of Elena Fontana, organized with love and dedication from the daughter Arianna Mossali. TUPO PAMOJA in Swahili literally means “we are together”, but translates as “count on me”, an extremely meaningful expression with which we like to remember Elena three years since her disappearance.

Thanks to the funds collected at the event, it will be possible to conclude definitively the construction and furnishing the multifunctional house in Chigongwe, a new building used primarily as guesthouse for girls and boys that carry out the Universal Civil Service at KISEDET NGO and for all those who want to visit the organization. The success of the first edition in 2021 gave a decisive boost to the works, which can now finally be completed.

In the past, Elena has supported various KISEDET NGO projects, out of solidarity and friendship with the founder Giovanna Moretti. “Nothing is owed, everything must be conquered” is a motto that perfectly reflects her mentality, and which is also the basis of our work in Tanzania.

The multifunctional house is yet another project developed to make the Chigongwe Family – a long-term shelter in the village of Chigongwe – partially self-sufficient. It is possible to stay there as a stop on a responsible tourism itinerary of the “Let’s meet under the Baobab” project promoted by Gruppo Tanzania Onlus.

On the wall of the multifunctional house there is now a plaque that reads:

Shine on you crazy diamond

Elena Fontana

Ahsante

Shine on you crazy diamond is a quote from the 1975 Pink Floyd song in tribute to the founder of the band Syd Barret. Elena particularly loved this song.

Thanks to Arianna who was able to give life to an event that combines music, good food, good company, for something useful and concrete, in favor of the most vulnerable. Thanks to those who participated and to the solidarity of those who chose to donate.
